Phone Book
I no longer have residential phone service though my local phone company, but they do keep sending me the yearly phone book. Im not sure why that is, but they do it anyway. Perhaps they have to. I dont think my cable company, who now has my business for local phone, has a book that they put out. Perhaps they help fund the book through the phone company to keep things easy and together. Whatever the case may be, I am glad I still get the phone book. Though you can find almost anything online, there might be nothing that beats the local yellow pages for information.
When I was a kid I never understood the stores and jokes about people standing or sitting on a phone book to be taller. This is because I was from a very small town and our phone book was only a quarter of an inch thick. I never understood until I moved to a large city and was suddenly confronted with a phone book that was almost three inches thick. Then I finally understood. This is also when I discovered how useful that book was for finding people and information.
I dont live in that large city any longer, but my local phone book is still pretty big. It has every business under the sun listed, and I can find whatever it is that I want when I open it up. One of the best things about the phone book is that there are almost twenty different menus from local restaurants. When we want to go to a new place, we can look through the menus and see what we might want to try. We also can find places that offer take away when we feel like eating at home.
If you discover that you find most of your information online, remember that you might still need your phone book. It is always a good idea to keep one handy for when you need to find something you cant find online. You wont be able to turn on your computer for information if the power goes out and you need help. You may not need your phone book very often, but you cant discount the need to have one for occasional use. You will be glad you saved it. You dont have to be like me and have a large stack of them though; you should throw out the old one when the new one comes.
