Direct Deposit
If you have any way to have direct deposit for your paycheck, you should most definitely do it. Not all companies do it, but it is more common than ever before. You may not think it?s a big deal, but you can?t discount how convenient it is, and how much time it saves you. You get your check usually a little earlier, and you don?t have to go to the bank to cash it. Even if you don?t have a checking account, you can get direct deposit for your savings account. It?s quick and easy to set up, and it won?t cost you a dime.
The first time I used direct deposit, I was thankful that I had taken the time to set it up through my employer. They handed me a sheet of paper and I just had to give them my information and the rest was done without any effort from me. It took two weeks for the direct deposit to go through, but I was glad I did it. The first time it happened, there was a storm, and everyone?s checks were delayed. Because I had direct deposit, I got my check before anyone else, and I didn?t have to stress about it coming in the mail.
Some banks will give you a break on fees and other things if you have direct deposit. If you bounce a check and you go below your limit, they know that you are going to pay it because your check is going into your account. You won?t have to worry about it, and they know they are going to get their money. They also know that you may not want to take the time to change your account and that you are likely to stay with them for a long time to come.
Another great thing about direct deposit is that in most cases you can get your money deposited into your checking account, but you can also have a portion of it sent to your savings if you so choose. If you wanted to put away twenty dollars a week in savings, they can to that for you, and then put the rest in your checking account. It?s convenient, and you can get some money put away without even thinking about it, and without missing it! What they say is true. If you take just a little out of your check each week before you pay anything else, you end up not missing it at all.
