Child Support Laws

My parents separated when I was very young. I could not have been more than five when my parents divorced, and I think perhaps that is why I took it so well. I really didn?t understand what was going on, but I did know my dad was not around as much. I always got to see him though, and he always paid his support payments like clockwork. In fact, he never missed a payment. He?s one of the good ones, and I am glad to call him my dad. There are others though, that could use a good brush up on child support laws.

Some men split and then they don?t want to pay for their children. They have many reasons, but most of them are selfish. They don?t quite understand that child support laws are there to protect the children, but they are not there to protect the mom. She must support them too. If the father were to get custody of the children then the mom would also have to obey the child support laws, and make sure her children were cared for financially.

When a divorce or a split is nasty, the father will often refuse to pay, and the mom will not allow him to see the children. He says he won?t pay until he sees the kids, and she says that he won?t see the kids until he pays. This is why there are child support laws in place. It is an unemotional way to deal with the problem. The thing that these parents aren?t realizing is that they are not following the child support laws as they are set up. Paying money for support does not guarantee that you get to see your kids. It doesn?t work that way.

If a father or mother is deemed unfit, they may not be able to see their kids, but under child support laws they still have to pay. If they don?t pay, it will be taken out of their check or even their tax returns. If a father is not paying he can still see his kids, but it will be easier for the mom to say no and have it upheld if he is a deadbeat. No matter what happens though, the child support laws are there to protect the children, not to give parents leverage if they are in a tug of war over their children. If adults stopped to think about what was best for their children, these laws wouldn?t have been needed in the first place.
