World Time
The world was simpler before the days of the Internet, and for the most part, your friends were right next door and spread throughout your community. If you wanted to talk to someone, you simply had to pick up the phone and dial a number. Friends and family may move away, but it was usually within a few times zones, and there was very little trouble in figuring out the time difference. Today, we have friends all over the world, and thanks to modern technology, business is conducted all around the global at a fast pace. Because of this, we have to know more about world time, and how to read a world time clock.
I live in the eastern United States, and I have two very dear friends who live in Australia. If I were to dig a hole through the earth, I would end up on their shore. This means that they are literally on the other side of the earth from me, and I know their time is very far removed from mind. When it is ten A.M. here, it is almost midnight of the next day for them. I think that?s right, anyway. It can get very confusing. If I?m not sure what time it is for them, I search for a reliable world time clock on the Internet to tell me the date and time over there.
If you do business with someone in China, or have an office in Italy, you also have to know how to use a world time clock. For the most part, you simply click on the location and it gives you the time there. It is always accurate, as long as you take daylight savings time into account. Your mobile phone may also have a world time clock, and you can use this to decide if it is a good time to call the other side of the world or not.
When dealing with the differences in world time, it may take some getting used to. When it?s nighttime here, but I know my friends have already woken up to Christmas morning, it can be quite disconcerting. It?s not really a day earlier there; it just seems that way with our system of time zones and the International Date Line. I use my world time clock to remember what time it is for them, but also remember to think a day ahead. And though it?s not really true, it?s a comfort to know that the world continues, because it?s already tomorrow in Australia. It?s not really tomorrow there, but it?s a nice thought anyway.
